Renholmen strengthens its position in Finland

2017-06-07

Renholmen has been entrusted to carry out a comprehensive upgrade of Isojoen Saha’s green sorter in Finnish Isojoki. The scope of the delivery includes a single feeder, camera system and lumber positioner.

“This is a knock-on effect of our deliveries to Lappi Timber and Junnikkala Oy in Oulainen. We are definitely a force to be reckoned with on the Finnish market,” says Bernt-Ove Andersson, Marketing Manager at Renholmen.

Isojoen Saha is a family-owned sawmill in Isojoki in southern Ostrobothnia in Finland. The company has been around for 60 years and produces 130,000 m3 of pine and spruce every year. A comprehensive upgrade of green sorting is required to increase production. According to Esa Hakamäki, MD of Isojoen Saha, the choice fell on Renholmen after studying their solutions both in Sweden and Finland.

“We saw quite a few impressive solutions, especially for their previous projects here in Finland but also in Sweden. We’re convinced that Renholmen’s solutions can handle both small and large dimensions in the same sawmill and with minimal problems. Renholmen is a reliable partner and we believe that they can best meet our needs based on a tight timetable.”

In addition to the single feeder, camera system and lumber positioner, Renholmen will rebuild the bin section with softBin, giving a smoother bin emptying function. Renholmen will also replace the existing hook track at Isojoen Saha with flap sorting.

“Flap sorting allows a much faster feed than a hook track. The Finnish market has long stuck with the older form of sorting conveyor. But recently we’ve at last been able to see a breakthrough for flap sorting. There is, generally speaking, a great deal happening within the Finnish sawmill industry at the moment. Development is progressing and it feels exciting to be able to see it up close and to contribute our knowledge and experience,” says Bernt-Ove Andersson.

However, it was not just the solution itself that made Isojoen Saha choose Renholmen. Quality and assurance were also important factors in the decision.

“We’ve seen that Renholmen’s products last. The fact that they continue to provide service and support after commissioning helps us to get the most out of the solutions and to reach our goals, which include increased production. And despite everyone here not speaking Swedish, our collaboration has been smooth,” says Esa Hakamäki. 2/2

Delivery and commissioning takes place in July 2017.
